Hi, my name is BEN MURPHY and I’m an American Artist residing in upstate New York (Rochester). Thanks for checking out my site, an eclectic combination of my new artwork, ideas, + posts on everything from politics and music to style and trends from around the world. All the stuff you see here is a result of my belief that artists shouldn’t just produce work to sit in galleries… it’s our obligation to be members of society who push the envelope and create change through our work and ideas.
Art has always been a big part of my life, but it fell to the back burner until 2007 when I began focusing on my artwork again and releasing my images through FLICKR.
My work is a blend of illustration, graphic design, mixed media, iconography, and cultural commentary. I often use pessimism and implied reverse psychology in my work; MY INTENT IS TO POKE FUN AT THE QUIRKY AND UNRECOGNIZED WAYS IN WHICH WE AS INDIVIDUALS AND SOCIETY SELL OURSELVES SHORT. My philosophy is that life is a wonderful opportunity to be grabbed by the horns, and I hope that my artwork forces you to question some of the underlying assumptions that limit the way you live your life.
